G.P.C. / Hot Feet

Today I joined the Gloucestershire Printmaking Co-operative. It was really nice to be back in a print studio and to be using some proper printing equipment again. There are lots of different presses I want to use, but today I got inducted on the screenprinting equipment. I prepared the screen for some Hot Feet t-shirts I am going to print tomorrow and I wanted to try out the GPC equipment straight away, so I printed the image onto some sheets of newsprint.

Stroud Fringe'11 Poster Draft

Initial idea for a Fringe Festival poster.

LAD Cutouts

I want to get back into cutting paper stencils, which I hope I can use as positives for silkscreen prints.
Shown here is an example of what I have in mind. I hope to make a range of these portrait cutouts depicting old school 'lads', some of which which I will probably print onto t-shirts.
I have posted a photo of the original cutout, as well as an inverted version of the photo, to show how the image would print if it was used as a positive for a silkscreen print. I have used sugar paper because it is much thicker than 80gsm paper and therefore less likely to turn transparent on my oily light box.

LAD Poster

Plans for a two-colour screenprint poster. This will probably be printed at A2 and I think i'll go with the red text.

Masters of Supspicion Badge Set

A blurry photo of the initial prototype for a complete set of The Masters of Suspicion badges. The backing card shown here is a woodblock letterpress I made in Dennis Gould's studio. Once I have settled on some typographic elements for the project, I might make a new version of this backing card, probably using a lino cut or rubber stamp. The text in the finished product will probably be more like a neater version of that used in the poster draft below.

Masters of Suspicion Poster Draft

A rough layout for one of the posters I want to include in my project.
This will probably be a four-colour screenprint, featuring halftone images similar to those featured on the t-shirts.

Masters of Suspicion Cross T-Shirt

Here is a simple t-shirt design I printed as part of the Masters of Suspicion project.
I didn't bother to iron these before I took the photos, but I will take some new pics for my website once the project is finished.

Masters of Suspicion

I've started this new project called The Masters of Suspicion. The work is based on a really good lecture I heard about Marx, Nietzsche and Freud: three men who went to war with God and won.
I want the finished project to consist of probably four t-shirts, a range of posters, some badges, some stickers and maybe some passages of letterpress text. Once this project is finished, I want to package the work into various-sized bundles, so if people want some, they can buy as much or as little as they like.
Here are the halftone images I want to print onto some of the t-shirts.

Foghorn Trio

Another poster for the Prince Albert pub (thanks Lotte and Miles). This went to print today and they haven't seen it yet, so I hope they like it.
Personally i'm worried that the style is more post-rock than bluegrass, but I hope it still does the job.

Beer Fest Promotion

A poster and lamp post banner I designed for the Prince Albert pub.
Honesty being the best policy, I have posted the banner design with the original typo that went to print.
These got printed onto fluorescent pink paper. Photos soon.

Black and White Logos

I wanted to make a single-colour version of the Facebook and Twitter logos, so that they would be in keeping with the rest of the flier design. These are rough versions of what I had in mind.

Stroud Fringe '11 Flier

Initial design for a Stroud Fringe 2011 flier. This design could also be used for the first poster, so I have made some mock-ups of how it may look screen printed with a colour blend. The layout needs re-shuffling a bit, but this is the sort of style I want to use.

Fringe Logo

Some rough designs for a new Stroud Fringe logo, which would be used on the posters, fliers etc, as well as on some merchandise.

Time Will Fly Anyway

Two-colour screenprint. Edition of 25. The print quality is a bit fuzzy, but I registered each one by hand using a float, so i'm still quite fond of them.

Business Cards

Two-colour silkscreen prints. My contact details are stamped on the back.

Digital Clock Text

Plans for a typographic piece based around a digital clock face.

Woolen Letters

Some lettering stuff which I might use as part of the 2011 Fringe Festival poster.

More Shredder Text

Shredder Text

I want to create some typographic pieces using paper and/or stationery that would usually be thrown away. I think the uniform shapes created by a paper shredder or hole punch etc could be used as the building blocks for some nice designs. Also, I like the fact that this approach pretty much allows me to experiment for free.
The test pieces pictured here actually use coloured paper which I shredded especially, but the shredder itself was about to be thrown away before I adopted it.
More test pieces soon.
